Timeline

"YOLO hasn't been around for very long but in the short space of time we have had, we have done so much. Each year we try to document some of the highlights of that year so that you can see how our story is unfolding. It is crazy to think that all of this began with an idea and £2000 and we are proud of what our team has helped us achieve. But, we are only just getting started!"

2021

Growth, Acquistions & Warehousing

Scayl was at the forefront of reinventing the industry at PPMA, as the business doubled in size this year. We bought major shares in the world's biggest hammock brand Amazonas becoming their official UK distributor - prompting us to invest in a new state-of-the-art warehouse. There's been lots of fun & team-building too, from Cafe Del Spa, meals out and bbq's by the river - we are a family.

2020

YOLO valued at £6.3m

We acquired Eye Lounge which has 33,000 customers and did a full brand overhaul. The UK announced lockdown and instead of furloughing, we doubled our team. Our hammock stock for the year sold out in 4 weeks, as the website hit the #1 position in Google for the term "hammocks". We raised £5000 for Save The Children Covid Appeal, BRUU won Shortlist Best Subscription Boxes 2020 and our group was independently valued at £6.3m.

2019

BRUU Serves Millionth Tea

BRUU serves its millionth cup of tea after a new and improved box revamp. We double our team, lease a warehouse for Scayl following contracts with Mondelez, Typhoo, Taylors of Harrogate and an official partnership with PFM. Scayl visits two leading exhibitions where its products are selected for industry awards. The team visit China to work on improving our machinery, a new product and to source teas from an exclusive estate in Yandang Mountains. We end the year with an amazing Christmas Party with steel drums, a super-star DJ from the BBC as we dance into the night.

2018

Baby World gets Royally Appointed

We acquire the brand license for Amazonas and launch Baby World, which quickly gets Royally Appointed.  We outgrow our first office and move to a new premises which is 5x the size, and begin fitting it out with grass, hammocks, beer machines and inspiring quotes.

2017

We launch Scayl & exit 3 others

We launched Scayl which manufacturers a range of intelligent packing machines aimed at the food sector. We raise money for Movember and enter the packing industry with a fresh approach. We also acquire three new businesses in hearing and outdoor living but sadly the chemistry is not right, so we sell them. We grow 70% on the previous year and visit Sri Lanka to source tea for BRUU.

2016

High street listings and tea wing walking

We acquire Simply Hammocks and revamp the website, turning it from making a loss to a profit in just 8 months. We recruit our first employee Greg, start the process of patenting a new hammock design which sadly fails. BRUU wins listings in M&S, Next, Debenhams, Argos, Waitrose and Boots and we film a video drinking tea on the wings of a plane. We grow 80% on our previous year.

2015

Our first brands are born

We move from the kitchen table into a small office which used to be a shoe shop - thanks Gerry's Shoes! We launch our first businesses, My Glasses Club and BRUU and grow our sales by 9500%. We cycled coast-to-coast, for fun.

2014

Our journey begins

We launch YOLO with a vision of creating a retail empire that is the best place in the world to work. We spend the year coming up with ideas for our first business, from the kitchen table.
